10-Year-Old’s Inspiring Act of Solidarity Touches Hearts Across Huntingdonshire and Beyond
10-year-old Christian from Manchester decided to shave his head for his Auntie Dawn, who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, he hoped to raise £250. Now, a few weeks later, he’s raised more than £2,600 for Hunts Community Cancer Network (HCCN), and his story has touched thousands.
On Saturday 23rd August, Christian sat proudly in the barber’s chair and braved the shave in honour of his Auntie Dawn, who lives in Huntingdonshire and is currently receiving support from HCCN. With a smile on his face and loved ones cheering him on.
What started as a heartfelt idea between aunt and nephew turned into something much bigger. From their regular “Hair Watch” video calls, where Christian would check in on how Dawn was doing, to raising funds and awareness for a local charity, Christian has shown the power of compassion in action.
In the run-up to his head shave, Christian shared his story with Black Cat Radio’s breakfast show, where he joined presenter Ste Greenall, his mum Adele, and Auntie Dawn for a live interview. Together, they spoke about why HCCN means so much to their family and what inspired Christian to take on this challenge. Ste, who recently became an HCCN Patron, described Christian’s efforts as “something truly special”.
With over 94 individual donations and more than 9,000 views across HCCN’s social media updates, Christian’s campaign has not only raised vital funds, but also incredible awareness for the charity supporting adults 18+ living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis in Huntingdonshire.
His Auntie Dawn has faced two surgeries and is now bravely navigating chemotherapy, but she hasn’t faced it alone. Christian’s head shave was a beautiful show of solidarity, a visible reminder that love bridges all distances, and no one faces cancer alone.
On Saturday 13th September, Christian travelled from Manchester with his mum, dad and grandmother to visit Auntie Dawn in Huntingdon and meet some of the HCCN team in person. The family, joined by Dawn and her partner, gathered at Delta Hotels for a special cheque presentation. Christian proudly wore his new HCCN t-shirt for the occasion. He left with a few well-earned goodies, a small token of thanks for his incredible kindness, courage, and determination.

Sarah, HCCN’s Operations Manager, said:
“Christian’s courage and kindness have inspired us all. It’s incredible to see such a young person take action with such heart and purpose. His fundraiser will go a long way in helping us continue our work supporting people across Huntingdonshire.”
Every donation to Christian’s page supports HCCN’s vital services, from counselling and fitness classes to emotional support and running our drop-in centres, helping people navigate the challenges of cancer with support, dignity, and community.
Christian may be small in size, but his impact has been mighty. And thanks to his brave shave, many more people will know they’re not alone.
