How You Can Help

Below are some of the volunteer roles we’re currently looking for support with. Click on each role to find out more about how you could get involved.

Volunteer Photographer and/or Videographer

Could you help us capture the heart of HCCN?

We are looking for a friendly and reliable volunteer photographer and/or videographer to occasionally attend HCCN events, activities and fundraisers across Huntingdonshire.

You would help us capture natural photographs and short video footage that we can use on our website, social media, newsletters and promotional materials.

This is an ad hoc and flexible role. We will contact you when we have an event coming up and you can simply let us know whether you are available.

You may be an experienced amateur or a professional. What matters most is that you have a good eye for capturing people naturally, understand the importance of consent and privacy, and can work sensitively around people affected by cancer.

You will have access to your own camera or suitable equipment.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself, your experience and whether you are interested in photography, videography or both.

Woodlands Centre Volunteer

Could you offer a warm welcome, a cuppa and a friendly conversation?

We are looking for volunteers to spend 1–2 hours on a Monday, Tuesday or Friday at the Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

You would make teas and coffees for people attending appointments or receiving treatment, spend time chatting with those who would like some company and let people know about the support and services available through HCCN.

You do not need healthcare experience. We are simply looking for someone who is warm, approachable, a good listener and comfortable spending time with people who may be feeling anxious, tired or worried.

You will not be expected to give medical advice or counselling.

The exact day and frequency can be discussed with you.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself and whether you are available on a Monday, Tuesday or Friday.

St Ives Support Group Volunteer

Could you help make our St Ives support group a welcoming place to be?

We are looking for a friendly and organised volunteer to help with our HCCN support group in St Ives for approximately two hours every Wednesday.

You would welcome people as they arrive, help new members feel comfortable, make sure the register is completed, organise refreshments and help everyone feel included.

From time to time, you might also organise a simple raffle, quiz or game, share HCCN news with the group and remind people about other activities and services available through the charity.

We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting people, notices when someone may be feeling lonely or left out and is happy to help create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
You don’t need previous experience kindness, reliability and good people skills are the most important things.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself and why this role appeals to you.

Volunteer Driver – Fundraising Equipment and Supplies

Could you help us get the right things to the right place

We are looking for an ad hoc volunteer driver to help collect and deliver HCCN fundraising equipment and supplies around Huntingdonshire and the local area.

This role is not about transporting patients or other people.

You might collect banners, boxes, fundraising materials or other equipment, deliver them to an event and occasionally collect them again afterwards.

There is no regular commitment. Different members of the HCCN team may contact you when help is needed and you can simply say whether or not you are available.

You must have:

    • A full UK driving licence
    • Access to your own suitable vehicle
    • Appropriate insurance for the journeys you undertake for HCCN

Agreed mileage will be reimbursed at the applicable HMRC approved mileage rate.

This role would suit someone reliable and practical who would like to support the charity without committing to a regular weekly role.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself, your vehicle and your usual availability.

Volunteer Community Speaker and Ambassador

Could you help more people across Huntingdonshire discover HCCN?

We are looking for a confident and friendly volunteer to represent HCCN at talks and community events throughout Huntingdonshire.

You may be invited to speak to organisations such as WIs, local community groups, GP surgery patients, other charities and small businesses.

You would talk about:

    • Who HCCN is
    • The people we support
    • The services and activities we provide
    • Why fundraising is so important
    • Our volunteering opportunities
    • How people and organisations can get involved

We will provide you with the information, presentation materials and key messages you need you simply need to bring them to life in your own friendly way.

This is an ad hoc role, with opportunities taking place during weekdays, evenings and occasional weekends.

You will need access to your own vehicle to travel to venues throughout Huntingdonshire.

You don’t need to be a professional public speaker. We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting people, communicates confidently and would be proud to represent HCCN in our local community.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself and any experience you have of speaking to groups or meeting members of the public.

Volunteer Choir Leader

Could you bring a little more music, laughter and joy to HCCN?

We would love to create a fun and informal HCCN choir for the people we support and we are looking for someone special to lead it.

The choir would meet one evening every two weeks.

This isn’t about creating a highly polished or competitive choir. We want people to come along, enjoy singing together, have a laugh, make friends and leave feeling a little brighter than when they arrived.

We would also love the choir to build enough confidence to perform at occasional HCCN events and celebrations throughout the year.

We are looking for someone who:

    • Enjoys leading people in song
    • Can encourage singers of all abilities
    • Is warm, patient and enthusiastic
    • Understands that enjoyment matters far more than perfection
    • Can help the group learn a selection of songs for occasional performances

You may have experience leading a choir or singing group, teaching music or simply bringing people together through music.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about your musical background, experience and which evenings you may be available

Social Media Support Volunteer

Could you help us make sure more people see what HCCN has to offer?

We are looking for a creative and reliable volunteer to help with some of HCCN’s regular social media content.

Much of the groundwork is already done. We have templates and established posts that need to go out regularly, including information about:

    • One Leisure classes
    • Cancer support groups
    • Other regular services and activities
    • Fundraising and events

You would help prepare and schedule these posts, vary the wording and images so that they continue to feel fresh, and work within our existing style.

Once HCCN Facebook posts are published, you would also help share them into the relevant Facebook groups that the HCCN Page is a member of. This includes posts you have created yourself and appropriate posts created by other members of the HCCN team.
The role is primarily home-based and flexible, although regular involvement will help us keep our content consistent.

You don’t need to be a professional social media manager. Familiarity with Facebook is important, and experience with Canva, scheduling tools or creating social media graphics would be helpful.

We are looking for someone organised, dependable and creative who understands that even regular information can be presented in a fresh and engaging way.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself, the social media platforms you use and any experience you have creating or sharing online content.

Volunteer Reiki Practitioner

Could you share your Reiki skills to support people affected by cancer?

We are looking for a kind and friendly volunteer Reiki practitioner to offer sessions to people supported by HCCN.

You will need to:

  • Be attuned to at least Reiki Level 2
  • Have your own suitable treatment space
  • Hold appropriate professional insurance
  • Be warm, reliable and respectful

This could be a lovely opportunity for a newly qualified practitioner who would like to build confidence and gain experience.

The role is flexible, and the number of sessions you offer can fit around your availability.

Interested?
Email info@hccnthecharity.org and tell us a little about yourself, your Reiki training and your availability.
