Bringing Wellness Activities Closer to Home
We’re excited to share some brilliant news from our Sawtry group!
For seven months, we’ve been running a well-attended monthly Drop-In session on the first Monday of the month at Old School Hall in Sawtry. With an average of 15 people attending, this friendly, relaxed cuppa-and-chat format has been a real success, giving people in the area a space to connect, feel supported, and simply enjoy being together.
But we’ve also been listening.
Time and again, we’ve heard the same feedback, that for many, travelling to Huntingdon for weekly activities can be difficult or inconvenient. People have told us they’d love to have access to more sessions closer to home, and not just once a month.
So we’re doing something about it.
Thanks to recent grant funding from the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, we’re delighted to expand our Sawtry group in October to offer activities every Monday of the month, while continuing to run our popular Drop-In on the 1st Monday. That means more accessible support, more ways to get active, and more chances to connect, all within easy reach for those living in Sawtry and the surrounding villages.

We’re also grateful to Sawtry Parish Council, who supported the original launch of the group by offering the venue free of charge and helping us reach the local community. Their help played a key role in getting us started.
Sessions now include:
- Balance & Strength
- Core Strength
- Seated Tai Chi & Tai Chi
- RightStart Seated & Circuit
Each session is led by a qualified instructor and is open to adults 18+ living with or beyond a cancer diagnosis. These sessions aren’t just enjoyable, they’re based on strong evidence showing the benefits of physical activity before, during and after treatment. Regular movement can reduce fatigue, support recovery from surgery, lower the risk of recurrence, and improve long-term wellbeing. And of course, the social side of our sessions is just as valuable, helping people feel connected and supported along the way.

💙 Want to join in?
You’re welcome to pop along to the Drop-In on the 1st Monday, or if you’d like to sign up for an activity session, just email us at info@hccnthecharity.org and we’ll get you started.
📣 Help us spread the word!
Do you know someone in Sawtry or nearby who might benefit from this? Please pass it on! We’d love your help letting others know about this new weekly opportunity.
We’ve already seen great success with the recent launch of our Get Active sessions at One Leisure St Neots and St Ives, and the response has been fantastic. It’s clear that accessible, local support really matters and this expansion in Sawtry is another important step in making sure more people can benefit from what HCCN has to offer.
This marks an exciting time for HCCN as we continue working to bring our support closer to where people live. Keep your eyes peeled, more updates are coming soon as we grow.
Together, we’re making it easier for people to live their best life despite cancer, wherever they are across Huntingdonshire.
